The idea of displaying model aircraft and pictures at the airport terminal is credited to Mr. Fred Mann. Mr. Mann has served many years on our Airport Committee and City Council. He had in his possession many models donated to him, and several he had built or sought for the collection. In addition, many of the pictures on our walls are on loan from Mr. Mann. His forsight has made this terminal very unique, and has inspired others to add to the collection. Displayed to the right are of his model collection.

Mr. Tony Fortin began building models before WW2, when they were whittled from balsa and covered in tissue. He had 4 brothers, two of which were in the air force.
Over the years, Mr Fortin continued his hobby with plastic models. When confronted with moving into a smaller place, which did not have adequate room for them, he had considered burning them as the idea of giving them away and having them smashed was intolerable.
His donation to our collection is appreciated, and of comfort to him to know they are protected and appreciated by all that views them.

Mr. Mike Millar has retired in Elliot Lake and has always been an aviation enthusiast. In the aviation field Mr. Millar is a pilot and for a time apprenticed under an aircraft maintenance engineer.
Mr. Millar "wanted to donate them to the airport and the people of Elliot Lake."
His collection comprises of 35 models, each depicting WW2 aircraft.

The bottom shelf are models from Mr. Fortin, which would not fit into his cabinet due to the required depth.

Mr. L. G. Phillips, in his dying wish at the hospital, instructed his family that he wishes the Elliot Lake Airport to have his favorite picture. We are grateful to him, and to us, it has a very special meaning.

Brenda Lalonde has spent countless volunteer hours condensing boxes of aviation magazines into an organized system of separated articles filed by topic. This library covers all aspects of aviation. In particular, aircraft evaluations have the potential to save you mega dollars when researching a type of aircraft to buy.

Topic references have been incorporated into a database.

1939 magazines have been kept intact,. It is interesting to read articles of advances in aviation that are now 60 years old.

Aviation Consumer and LightPlane Maintenance magazines have also been kept intact with topics searchable through the database.

We also have many books on hand covering topics of design, maintenance, and piloting. The library has been set up with you in mind and access is of course free.

In addition to acknowledging the individuals above we would like to thank the following:

The displays are appreciated by all, children (who want to take some home but can't), adults, pilots, and of course seniors who some have had real life experience with what they see depicted in the models.
They are here for you to enjoy and we invite you to spend some time viewing the display. We have had several people so moved by memories that it brought on tears.
